  43. NewTalk presents focused discussions by experts on the most important domestic topics shaping American society today. We bring together experts in theory, policy and practice—from academics and lawmakers to admired practitioners—to share their diverse perspectives on pressing domestic issues.

At a time when politicians are mired in shallow, partisan debate, NewTalk asks the hard questions to build an honest and informed dialogue that can lead to real progress. We’re not afraid to confront issues where the current systems are failing and fundamental reform may be needed. Our approach calls for a clean slate. If we’re going to make America better, we need to face up to the tough trade-offs and question our most basic assumptions.

NewTalk is nonpartisan: we invite experts to participate who have different points of view, asking only that they show a deep understanding of the issues at hand and a commitment to the kind of open discussion that might take place around a dinner table. (Candor loves company). Their discourse is focused by a moderator, and by a time limit of hours or days. The result is talk that is more than just talk: talk that can lead to action. NewTalk aims for new ways to improve our country and how we live.

NewTalk has been organized under the auspices of Common Good, a nonpartisan coalition to restore reliability to America’s legal system. Common Good was founded in 2002 by Philip K. Howard, author of The Death of Common Sense (Random House, 1995) and The Collapse of the Common Good (Ballantine, 2002). Howard is Vice-Chairman of the law firm Covington & Burling LLP and a prominent New York civic leader. Common Good projects include a joint venture with the Harvard School of Public Health to design a reliable system of health justice; the “Boundaries of Litigation” forum of leading judges, legal scholars and policymakers; a program to restore the Value of Play for America’s youth; and a National Petition for Common Sense to reform America’s legal system.

We will protect, improve, and save the life of any Min Pin, regardless of the financial, physical, or emotional cost of doing so.

Min Pin Rescue, Inc. is a Federally approved IRS 501(3)c charity and a nonprofit, volunteer-based rescue corporation registered with the Secretary of State of North Carolina. Our volunteers give their time, their money, and their hearts to save Miniature Pinschers’ lives. They do this only because of their love of the breed. 100% of your adoption donations and any other donations received are used to pay the vetting costs of Min Pins within the rescue. Frequently, our medical costs for the care we give a particular Min Pin may well exceed the requested adoption donation substantially. All administrative and operational expenses are paid solely by the volunteers, not the rescue. All donations that Friends of Penny receive go directly to the Furkids, a non-profit, no-kill min pin rescue .

  93. WonWish is a foundation whose purpose is to help any needy person who demonstrates the willingness to use resources they may be gifted, to help themselves become a more productive and valuable asset to society.

It is intended that said beneficiaries of our resources would in turn help others who are in a similar position as they once were, to get a hand up and overcome obstacles which have prevented them from being the asset to society they have the potential to be.

Our resources will include mentoring, advice, guidance, counseling, and more, based on the needs of each individual. We recognize that funding is not always the primary roadblock to an individuals growth. Many times the key is nothing more than showing them how to act on an idea they have, and researching to find the best way to implement that idea. So many people have great ideas, but become less enthusiastic about them if they can’t discover how to put them into action, and/or to profit from them.

Our goal is to recruit successful persons from all walks of life to form a core group that will assess an applicants needs and desires, and to collectively create a plan by which those needs and desires may be realized.

We believe that anyone is capable of success in life with the right resources. Our organization is accepting the burden of matching the necessary resources to those persons who are inspired to create a better world for themselves and all mankind, and to remove the barriers preventing them from reaching their goals.

I’ve worked in the non profit sector for the last 14 years. Many of those years were spent in development and marketing leadership positions at organizations like the Red Cross and Heart Association.

My areas of expertise include strategic fundraising planning, helping organizations diversify the ways they raise money, and designing and facilitating non profit training workshops.

I also specialize in the creation, production and management of non profit special events and can help your organization produce a well managed event with increased net income. And…when you get more event attendees than you ever thought possible, my logistical skills will help you comfortably fit 12 people at banquet tables designed for 8.

As a consultant I bring energy, expertise and strategy, but most of all a spirit of service and a commitment to helping your organization excel. I suspect my commitment to service started when I was a 6 year old Brownie Girl Scout determined to earn every insignia and badge I could get. Today my motivation is the positive change that a well resourced non profit can bring to our communities. But I’ll take the insignias too if you have them.

  214. Community Shares of Minnesota is part of a national network of organizations that connect, fund and raise awareness for community groups fighting for fairness and equality. Our focus on long-term solutions is what makes the work so important today — problems like poverty, discrimination and pollution don’t solve themselves, and, left alone, only get worse.

And, after 30 years, we still remain a pioneer in some interesting ways. The majority of our board is made up of those from the community groups we fund; being community-led means we understand what is happening around us in real terms. It also means we have become a nucleus for sharing ideas and networking. We also support our member groups with resources like leadership and organization building. The results, as you can see in our impact stories, have been phenomenal.

But none of this would be possible without an underlying passion that is a common thread between our member groups and our donors — our aim is to make sure the next generation is freed from the challenges that many, many people still face today. With your help, we’re getting there.

Because charity is good. But change is better.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation is a private, nonprofit membership organization dedicated to saving historic places and revitalizing America’s communities. Recipient of the National Humanities Medal, the Trust was founded in 1949 and provides leadership, education, advocacy, and resources to protect the irreplaceable places that tell America’s story. Staff at the Washington, DC, headquarters, six regional offices and 29 historic sites work with the Trust’s 270,000 members and thousands of preservation groups in all 50 states.

The need for the National Trust for Historic Preservation has increased since its founding in 1949. When historic buildings and neighborhoods are torn down or allowed to deteriorate, a part of our past disappears forever. When that happens, we lose history that helps us know who we are, and we lose opportunities to live and work in the kinds of interesting and attractive surroundings that older buildings can provide.
