We ask that a major animal welfare organization campaign to put an end to the widespread cruelty being perpetuated on a daily basis in Walmart’s aquarium department.

Concerned advocates for animal welfare are ashamed by the lack of response from PETA, HSUS, HSLF and ASPCA. Walkmart is committing the largest, most pervasive case of animal cruelty in the country and no animal welfare organization is taking notice.

For years complaints have been stacking up — almost daily — of sick or dying fish left in deplorable conditions because Walmart does not adequately train staff to care for their aquariums.

Entire tankfuls of fish with dropsy, a bacterial infection that produces severe bloating in the abdomen, and no medicine on hand to treat it; Betta fish being left to die a slow death as the water in their single cup evaporates without being refilled. These are just a few of the reports which have been documented with video and posted online. Something must be done to help these silent victims of Walmart’s untrained staff and cruel animal welfare standards.

So we ask that all major animal welfare organizations take up this cause. We need your help to stop Walmart’s pervasive and widespread animal cruelty to the living sentient creatures in their aquariums.

ORIGINAL LETTER TO ANINAL WELFARE ORGANIZATIONS

A huge animal welfare crisis is looming in the Walmart pet department. For years now, consumer complaints about the deplorable aquarium conditions at Wal-Mart have been stacking up (visit http://www.consumeraffairs.com/pets/walmart.html and youtube.com where dozens of videos have been posted, just type in “Wal-Mart fish” to see it for yourself) with no animal welfare organization taking notice!
Many others have reported similar stories — seeing beta fish cups without adequate water, tankfuls of dead or dying fish being left unattended for days — the consumer affairs blog contains too many disturbing accounts to read. Wal-Mart is obviously getting away with animal cruelty somehow.

In 1994 Walmart abandoned the sale of other live pets, including hamsters and gerbils due to cost concerns, but “In fish, Wal-Mart … benefits from an extraordinary agreement with Blue Springs and Hartz that it can return any fish that dies within 72 hours of delivery, regardless of what caused the loss. That compares with the industry standard of only 24 hours.”

Walmart staff receive little to no aquarium training and the result is large scale animal cruelty. Please sign the petition asking for Walmart to change their policy in the pet department.

The objective of Angels Watch, Inc., is to establish a multi-acre sanctuary and adoption center for unwanted, abandoned, abused, and homeless animals.

This environmentally green facility is a no-kill center which will care for and house each animal until they can be adopted. Angels Watch will create a database with other such facilities in order to be vigilant in insuring the safe placement of and care for these pitiful animals. By having this communication network, we will be able to do our part to rescue and give the necessary shelter and care to such animals.

Our commitment to protecting these canines and horses will be to educate people on the vulnerability of these animals to being abused, abandoned, etc.

Angels Watch’s immediate short term goals are to build an all “green” facility which will house nine to twelve residents at a time. We will first concentrate on establishing the facility for canines.

The shelter will allow each animal to have its own living quarters. Also included will be rooms for the initial observation of each incoming resident. This facility will be equipped with a treatment room, indoor exercise rooms, areas for grooming, and the necessary space for administration offices.

The long term goals for Angels Watch will be to include horses in the community. The facility for this vision will include a barn which will house eight to twelve horses.Also in this facility will be examination and treatment areas, a grooming center, exercise or rehabilitation areas, and the necessary acreage for the natural lifestyle for horses.

Angels Watch will be steadfast in doing our part to help eliminate the horrific stories we all hear concerning the abuse, abandonment, and euthanizing of animals. This will be our mission and we are fully committed to this project. Dedicated to accomplishing our mission, we are investing each and every day towards achieving the goals and vision of this facility and future facilities.
